Flight Reservation for China Visa

What is a China Flight Reservation?

China requires most foreign nationals to hold a visa before arrival. When you apply for a Chinese visa at an embassy, consulate or Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC), you are asked to submit proof of your round-trip travel itinerary alongside your supporting documents. A China flight reservation gives you a real airline PNR you can include in your application without paying the full fare for tickets you may not be able to use if your visa is refused.

Unlike a "dummy ticket", our reservation is a genuine, temporary booking held in an airline's reservation system. Consular officers can look up the PNR and confirm the flight exists, the routing is real, and the dates match what you have stated on your application form.

China Visa Categories That Need a Flight Reservation

China issues different visa types by purpose of visit. The categories that most commonly require proof of onward and return travel are:

  • L Visa (Tourism): the most common — sightseeing and personal travel. Requires a round-trip flight itinerary and a hotel booking covering your stay.
  • M Visa (Business / Trade): commercial and trade activities, meetings, negotiations and trade fairs; usually needs an invitation plus a travel itinerary.
  • Q1 / Q2 Visa (Family Visit): visiting Chinese citizens or permanent residents (Q2 for short visits).
  • S1 / S2 Visa (Family of foreigners in China): visiting foreign nationals who are working or studying in China.
  • F Visa (Exchange / Visit): non-commercial exchanges, visits and study tours.
  • X1 / X2 Visa (Student): long-term and short-term study.
  • G Visa (Transit): for transiting through mainland China where a transit visa is required.

For tourist (L) and most short-stay categories, evidence of intended travel — both flight and accommodation — is part of the standard document checklist.

What the Chinese Consulate Looks For in a Flight Reservation

Visa officers assess whether your trip is genuine and whether you intend to leave China at the end of your authorised stay. Your flight reservation feeds into both. Specifically, they want to see:

  • A round-trip itinerary: a confirmed entry to and exit from China, both with real airline reference codes. A one-way reservation reads as an overstay risk.
  • Dates that match your application form, invitation and hotel booking: your stated entry and exit dates must line up across every document.
  • A point of entry consistent with your plans: for example arriving at Beijing (PEK) or Shanghai (PVG) in a way that matches your itinerary and hotel city.
  • A clean PDF showing airline name, flight numbers, full route and PNR — consulates and CVASCs do not accept screenshots, photos of screens, or low-resolution copies.

Processing Times for a China Visa

Typical service times at most Chinese Visa Application Service Centres:

ServiceTypical Decision Time
Regular4 working days
Express2–3 working days
Rush (where available)1 working day

Express and rush services charge an additional fee. Your flight reservation needs to be valid at the moment the consulate processes your file. We offer 48-hour, 7-day and 14-day validities — pick the option that comfortably covers your appointment date plus your chosen processing window. For regular service, the 14-day validity is the safer choice.

COVA and the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC)

Most applicants first complete the online application form (COVA), print and sign it, then book an appointment to submit documents and biometrics at a CVASC or directly at the consulate, depending on the country. Whichever applies to you, your flight reservation PDF needs to:

  • Print cleanly to A4 (our reservations are usually 1–2 pages)
  • List your name exactly as it appears in your passport
  • Show a real, verifiable PNR with both the outbound and the return segment

Visa-Free Transit (24 / 72 / 144-Hour) Still Needs Onward Proof

China offers visa-free transit of 24, 72 or 144 hours at many ports of entry for eligible nationalities travelling on to a third country. Even under these schemes, border officers require proof of an onward flight to a third country within the permitted window. A verifiable flight reservation is the cleanest way to evidence your onward travel without committing to a ticket before you fly.

Why a Real Airline PNR Beats a Dummy Ticket

"Dummy ticket" providers sell PDFs that look real but are not backed by an actual reservation in the airline's system. When a verification check fails, the application is refused on document-credibility grounds — and that refusal can follow you into future visa applications. Our reservations are made directly through the GDS providers (Amadeus, Sabre) used by real travel agencies, so when the consulate looks up your PNR they see a genuine booking — pending, but real — held in the airline's system.

Common China Refusal Reasons Tied to Flight Documents

From applicants who come to us after a previous refusal:

  • Flight reservation expired before the consulate processed the file (especially on regular service)
  • One-way itinerary submitted with no return flight shown
  • Entry and exit dates inconsistent with the hotel booking or invitation letter
  • A screenshot or unverifiable "ticket" submitted instead of a real airline PNR

Hotel Reservation for Your China Visa

Tourist (L) applicants are also asked for proof of accommodation for the whole stay. Rather than prepay a hotel you may need to change, our hotel reservation service produces a real, cancellable booking confirmation PDF — booking reference, dates, address, and your name as the guest — which you can submit alongside your flight document.

How to Submit Your Reservation

After your reservation arrives by email (typically within 1–3 hours of order), download the PDF. If your application centre asks for printed documents, include a copy in your physical document folder. If your appointment uses an online upload portal, log in and upload the PDF under the travel or itinerary category. Keep the original email and the PNR until your visa decision arrives — if the consulate raises a query, having the reference handy speeds up your response.

Trusted by China Visa Applicants Worldwide

Our service has supported applicants from dozens of nationalities through Chinese visa centres across Asia, Africa, the Middle East and beyond. The reservation format is the same one real travel agencies use when ticketing China-bound itineraries.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. China expects a round-trip itinerary showing both your arrival and your departure, each with a real airline PNR. A one-way reservation is treated as an overstay risk and is a common refusal reason.
